James F. Beekman, M.D.
Dr. Beekman is originally from Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and his Doctor of Medicine from The University of Toledo College of Medicine. His Internal Medicine residency was completed in 2008 and his fellowship in Rheumatology was completed in 2010, both at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Beekman is board certified in Rheumatology and is licensed in medicine in the state of North Carolina. He is an active staff member at Moses Cone Hospital and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the North Carolina Rheumatology Association, and the Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Beekman is trained in the newest non-surgical treatments for joint disease and rheumatologic conditions including joint ultrasound. He has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound for the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases.
Dr. Beekman feels truly blessed to be in a position to help people, and he loves being a rheumatologist! He believes that every patient has a unique story and treatment plan. He enjoys all outdoor activities, and loves spending time with his wife and three beautiful children.
Angela D. Hawkes, M.D.
Dr. Hawkes is originally from Orem, Utah. She has lived in Greensboro since 2010. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University and her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Her training in Internal Medicine was completed in 2007 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Penn State program, and her fellowship in Rheumatology was completed in 2009 at Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University program.
Dr. Hawkes is board certified in Rheumatology and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the North Carolina Rheumatology Association. Dr. Hawkes is trained in the newest non-surgical treatments for joint disease and rheumatologic conditions. Dr. Hawkes is trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound, administering infusible medications, and in the latest treatment options for rheumatologic diseases. Dr. Hawkes treats all forms of autoimmune disease.
Dr. Hawkes feels that Rheumatology is truly her niche, and believes it is the best job she has ever had. When not seeing patients, Dr. Hawkes enjoys reading, travel, and spending time with her family and her dog Pepper.
Alyssa R. Strazanac, M.D.
Dr. Strazanac grew up in Raleigh, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2011. After some experience volunteering abroad, she completed her Doctor of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine in 2018. She completed her internal medicine residency at Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic Hospital in Roanoke, VA in 2021. She recently completed her Rheumatology fellowship at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC in 2023.
Dr. Strazanac is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Association of Women in Rheumatology and the North Carolina Rheumatology Association. Dr. Strazanac is trained in the newest non-surgical treatments for joint disease and rheumatologic conditions. She treats all rheumatologic diseases.
Dr. Strazanac is excited to join our practice. She loves rheumatology and cannot imagine practicing in another specialty. She enjoys getting to know her patients and making them feel heard. Outside of medicine, she loves traveling, cooking, hiking, and ceramics.
Michelle G.Young, PA-C
Michelle is a native of Greensboro, NC. She earned her Radiologic Technology degree from Moses Cone School of Radiology; and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health from Greensboro College. In 2005 she earned her Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant studies from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Michelle is a certified Physician Assistant through the North Carolina Medical Board. She is licensed in the state of North Carolina and Florida. She is an active staff member at Moses Cone Health Systems, and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants. Michelle is certified in musculoskeletal ultrasound through the American College of Rheumatology. Her special interest include the newest non-surgical treatments for joint disease and rheumatologic conditions.
Michelle feels grateful for the opportunity to connect with her patient’s in both a professional and personal setting. She enjoys getting to know them and working together to provide a treatment plan that is unique to their individual needs. She enjoys outdoor activities such a kayaking, hiking and swimming. She enjoys travel and time with friends. She especially loves making memories with her 3 beautiful children and grandchildren.
